Charity

in 2024 inspired by the work that the RNLI did we decided to raise funds for this worthy cause.  We hosted a fish supper day where we donated every penny taken on that day along with many donations made by our wonderful customers.  This day raised £1000 which we donated to the local branch in Stornoway.

At the beginning of 2025 we lost a dear friend Claire Stewart who lived in our village to cancer.  She had fought so hard for a few years and had received some amazing support from a local charity called Western Isles Cancer Care Initiative (WICCI). https://wicci.org.uk/

WICCI offer amazing support to families dealing with cancer.  They offer complimentary therapies, counselling, financial support and so much more.  I know Claire loved the group activities they offered and the kindness shown to her and her husband.  We had use of the service during Covid lockdown when Julie had cancer.  Her treatment caused pain when the air was cold and living in a chilly house on a windy island this was no fun.  WICCI helped us out with a grant which meant we could buy enough coal to keep the house warm all winter and for that we can not thank them enough.

We are supporting WICCI for 2025 in as many ways as we can.  Claire used to do lots of knitting and crochet along with her other arts and crafts.  When she died she left a lot of her creative "ingredients" behind and we have been selling them on to raise funds.  She also had quite a few toys she had made which we will be selling throughout the season for WICCI.  Again we will hold a fish and chip day the same way that we did for the RNLI but there will be more about that later in the year.  We will have a WICCI donation box out for anyone to pop any spare change in and unless our young waitress Emily is working, all tips will go straight into the WICCI box too.
